outside. When I'm moving it is about 1/3rd to 1/2 with hot outside temp. My fan kicks on at about 3/4. Rad looks original with 195k miles on car. I do about a 15 min drive to work mostly freeway and the temp gauge stays on 1/3. Sounds like something is wrong with the temp going up that fast. At what point does the fan kick on? Could be radiator since you changed the thermostat. Have you done a cleaning flush? If you do flush make sure the engine is cool enough for the cold water you are putting in. I flushed with this Prestone product and I think I had to do 4 drains and refils so it took many hours. A lot of crap came out. I was able to get out the engine block plug but this isn't manditory. Good luch in your troubleshooting.
Best, KB.
