I have not replaced a control arm, but I have replaced the bushings with the engine in the car at the same time that I did a new motor mount. I did this several years ago so I might miss something or add something because I did the mount at the same time.
To get access, I removed the A/C compressor, expansion tank and alternator, but since I was just doing the bushings, I was able to leave the spring in place and do one bushing at a time. You will also need to remove the spring with a spring compressor. Of course the upper balljoint will have to be unbolted, but that's not a big deal.
The question that I have is can you get the arm out without removing the engine mount and other items or perhaps you can get it out through the fender well opening. Since I'm not looking at my car right now and haven't done it myself, I'm not sure. Sorry for inconclusive answer, maybe someone else can elaborate.
