A car can run fine for quite awhile with a leaking head gasket, but rough idle at start up will eventually appear.
Was the tank full when you left it and leaked out in 8 hours? If that much coolant leaked into a cylinder, you would almost certainly see a rough idle and white smoke out the exhaust at first start up. Once the coolant burns off, the idle smooths out.
Reach down below the A/C compressor and grab the water pump pulley. If it is sloppy, the pump is bad. Look for leaks below the pump. If it is solid and no leaks, I think the problem is elsewhere
Fill up the tank, run the engine, bleed the system and watch the temp. If the upper radiator hose doesn't get hot, the thermostat could be stuck shut. This is why others have seen over pressure blowing steam out the cap. So cap could be good and doing its job. If thermostat opens up and the upper radiator hose gets hot, then the problem might be a leaky cap.
