Synth will only leak if your seals are bad. Synth doesn't harm seals but it will clean all the crap out of a heavily deposited engine which could cause leaks if the seal are bad to begin with. Synth oil costs more but gives better protection and doesn't break down as fast as dino oil. With a synth oil you can go 5k to 10k or even more depending on your engine condition and filtration. People that really want to know the condition of their oil get an oil analysis done. Otherwise you are just guessing. Synth may be better for the enviroment since you don't have to change every 3k miles.
I change mine every 5k with a new filter. Some go 10k with filter change at 5k with synth oil on a turbo. A turbo car is harder on oil than non-turbo so synth oil is highly recommended for a turbo and will not coke up the turbo like dino oil can.
Mobil 1 a fully synth oil and is like $4.00 per quart.
Some like dino but I go for the synth for better protection and longer oil change interval.
Best, KB.
