Last week I sold my '88 900 for $600.00 to a young gentleman. I advertised the car as it was at the present time. No A/C and the trans was popping out of 2nd occasionally. This afternoon he came by and reported that the car would no longer go into 5th. He insisted on an immediate refund citing my previous saabnet posts that the transmission was bad. After some some heated debate, he agreed to let me try to adjust the shifter lockout pin, in was an attempt to try to rectify the situation. That failed attempt convinced me that my hypothesis was wrong, and I refunded his money. I certainly had no ill intentions when I sold him the vehicle, so I felt obligated to refund his money. Especially given the fact that the car would part out for money than 600 dollars.
What pisses me off though, is that in the past 2 years that I have owned the car, I have never had that problem. I cannot imagine what he did in 1 week and 400 +- miles later to create this situation.
Worse yet, I now have to wait for him to receive the title, (which will be in his name) and send it back to me, signed over to a purchaser at large. He signed a note agreeing to do this after I refunded the money. This whole process will take 4-6 weeks, and I don't have the room to keep this red headed stepchild now. I have the old registration and his signed note, but what are my best options now to dispose of this ? I live in Mass., and the vehicle inspection system is pretty stringent, and now that it won't go into 5th, I doubt that it would pass inspection.
Fellow Saabnetter ideas welcome.
