91 transmission should be OK, unless it has been abused. It has the larger pinion bearing and can take the torque better. My 90 trans is approaching 300k miles and still fine.
I would be moderately concerned about how well the coolant has been maintained and whether the car has had a headgasket replacement yet. If the coolant has not been changed annually/bi-annually and the headgasket is original, I would expect a replacement to be needed within the next 50k miles. This will cost about $1k, unless you can DIY, in which case the cost is about $150 in parts plus about $150 for head resurfacing, valve seals and valve lapping at the machine shop. If the coolant has been well-maintained, you should be OK to around 200k and you might be able to extend that further by switching to Merc-Benz coolant as soon as you get the car.
Test drive car over a rough surface to check for common bad balljoints, sway bar bushings. Also check for vibration under acceleration in 4th gear for a bad inner driver. These are all diyable and you might be familiar with this stuff from the cuurent 900.
