I was wondering if could happen while driving and I'm glad to hear that you could still control the car. I think my tire rubbed when my lower control arm broke. You said that you didn't have any tire rubbing damage. I inspect mine frequently now with a flashlight. Yes, I wish there was some stronger aftermarket product. I guess one could weld braces on it to strenthen it.
