Years ago there was a flurry of posts on this issue, to the point of discussing a lawsuit. You are the second or third person that posted about a failure while at speed. Perhaps you can contact the NHSA (sp?). Not to be facetious, but I think you probably need to have a death or major loss, i.e damages to get a lawyer interested. You could easily spend $100k to pursue this without a contingency opportunity.
I do think that careful visual inspection is a good preventative measure and check mine all the time, based on advise from Jim. I also think the crack has to be pretty bad before it will break while going forward.
