Well I charged the battery and started the car this morning. I checked the battery voltage and it was about 11.5, then I checked the output directly at the alternator and it was 14.5 Obviously there was a horrible connection somewhere. Then I noticed that my battery positive cable, where it attaches to the starter, had nearly all its insulation melted off and there was only about 15% of the cable mass actually hooked up to the starter. I pushed the cable around alittle bit and as soon as I made a solid conection the alternator put a load on the engine....the alternator moved slightly on its loose mounting and the engine RPM dropped. I wanted to see if the battery light went out when I did that, but I was unable to reproduce it. Will order a new B positive cable. How on earth could the car start, if there wasnt enough of a solid connection to charge the battery? The curent draw from the starter is much more than the charge current to the battery. Any explanations?
