I don't drink. If you recall, I wrote and told you this would happen (see point #1). Radio execs are laughably predictable. However, 86SPG makes very cogent points. Where were the offers previously and how much do you hate the company?
This company was willing to get as much work as they could out of you without payng for it. Who's to say it won't happen again but at a higher level? If you decide to stay, there has to be very clear lines drawn regarding your responsibilities. You have to have the backbone to map out what you're willing to do for a price. If they want you to do more, they must pay for it.
Unfortunately, media companies respect you only when you become a bit of an a$$hole. They understand a$$hole behavior. You have to be firm and stand your ground, otherwise they will take advantage of you. Think like a ballplayer. Not everyone would or could do your job so exclusivity plus your willingness to work hard has a price. You are a proven radio professional and that costs.
So now it sounds like you have some hard choices to make. Nice to have options, huh? If you decide to go, tell your present company you feel it's time for a change and can you rely on them for a good reference. If they press you for reasons, tell them you don't think their company is the place for you and you're looking for a change of scenery. Don't make it personal, even though the temptation is there to torch everyone in the joint.
Should you decide to move and take up radio in your new locale, get a letter of recommendation quickly because the people you work for may no longer be there if you stay out for long. Better still, get the highest person you can in your company's food chain to print a letter out on letterhead for you and take it west. If they don't have time to write one, write it for them and have them sign it. If you leave with good feelings they will certainly vouch for your work ethic. A good letter from a company in the nation's #3 market is a great entre.
Enjoy your newfound status as a person in demand.
