Yes, I had noted a whine in my original post. I'll see on my way home from work tonite whether it's still present.
As for the voltage drop, I ran a new ground wire (actually it's three 14-gauge wires crimped onto a common connector because I didn't have any reasonably large wire around) from the alternator case to a bolt on the throttle. I couldn't find a better place on the engine, and I really didn't want to disassemble everything to get to the ground point under/behind the alternator. I measure essentially no voltage while the car is running between any metal point on the engine and the alternator case. So I'm *assuming* that the alternator ground is fine. But if you can suggest a better point on the engine to ground to, I'll change it... I just couldn't find anything better & convenient.
I'll get some long test leads and measure between the alternator case and the negative battery terminal, but I'm going to guess that the drop will be negligible.
Any suggestions for testing and repairing the corrosion you mentioned above?
Thanks!
