they are great! I have 8"s in the doors for mid and 4.25"s in dash for highs. Now I think the have a 5.25" which would be even better and I have a 12 JL Audio sealed sub in hatch. I listen at loud volumes with Fosgate 360.6 which is 648 watts total power output and which blasts and the speakers have not been hurt and sound beautiful.
Get rid of those OEM paper cone speakers as fast as possible. If you really want to crank with clean sound then you need a sep amp. I don't even use my Kenwwood deck to drive the speakers because the Fosgate amp does all that. I also really like the Audio Control preamp which has knobs for quick adjustments and is green at night to match my dash.
Just start out gradually with some new speakers if you don't want to spend a lot of money. Keeping the speakers in front and side and not back will give you a better sound stage but it would be easier to put them in the rear. Mine was $3200.00 which was a lot for me but you get into it and it grows. I get so much enjoyment out of it i'd say it was well worth the price and that included professional installation. I heard of a guy who had a friend help install his and he used too thin wire and his dash and instruments caught on fire because of it.
Good luck.
Cheers, KB.
