I am in the slow process of putting a stereo in my 88 3 door. I pulled all my equipment out of my 89 4 door and now need to put it into the 3 door. I have 4 inch bostons up front. They are running off of my Sony head unit. There is plenty of power with most new head units to push the small 4 inchers. My Sony has 16w RMS power and 40w peak. This matches the speakers. For the rear I have some Alpine 6x9s that I never really liked, but were cheap compared to the Bostons that I wanted. I cut holes in the rear deck on the 4 door and dropped them in. It looked good, but for the new car, I want it to look totally stock. I am planning on putting in Boston 5x7s in the stock location. I am going to push them with a Rockford Fosgate punch 100. To put the head unit in, front speakers, and run the wires for the amp took about three hours in my cold ass garage and a 36 dollar chiro bill. But now all I need is to put the last of the speakers in and hide the amp under the back seat. I will have a nice looking stock setup. I had a sub for a while, but it just ended up getting in the way and not really making the sound any better. The only thing I would suggest is spend your money on good speakers and wires. I would put in a smaller amp with a good set of speakers before I would put in a sub. A sub takes a lot of power to sound good and also takes a lot of room. Hope this helps. Remember, a good looking and sounding setup takes time to install and costs money. Figure out what is important to your budget, look and start there.
