You should look for rust under the a-arms, where the driveshafts go into the body. Hard to fix. A-arms themselves as well. Beware of automatic transes and of manuals as well (haha). Manuals should NEVER pop out of gear. If it does, run from it. Any whine is suspicious too, especially fourth and fifth from 55 miles and up.
Check handling by driving. Any unsteadiness, vibration, 'lock' on full turns (try a full turn on low speed and see what gives), flaws in the power steering is caused by some minor or major mishap in the complicated suspension. Lots of rubber bushings that wear out, front and rear.
Speaking of rubber, vacuum hoses can give idle problems, as well as numerous other things.
Don't let this scare you, sometimes saabs are hard to get straight, but once straight, they are lots of fun. They are not simple cars though, unless you're mechanically inclined.
Have fun with your top down!
