spindle/carrier are locked with metal tabs. The first time I tried to remove them (in 84-85 or so) there was so much rust/corrosion around there I couldn't see the tabs and no socket would fit quite right, much less move the bolts!
The tabs have to be bent back, usually you can pry them open with a screwdriver enough to tap them back with the socket as you put the socket on the bolt. The service manual recommends replacing the tabs when you reinstall the caliper but I generally use blue loctite on the bolts and bend the tabs back or just leave them there as a washer.
