Brake Fluid Spurt from Accumulator?

1991 900 Convertible 140k miles. I was away for a month. Upon returning, had to jump the battery. While so doing, applying the brake pedal (accidentally) with the engine off resulted in a spurt of brake fluid (quite a fountain the first time, then decreasing upon subsequent application of the brakes) from the accumulator. What's going on here? I drove the car after jumpstarting, and the brakes seemed fine; fluid level is okay. 3-5 seconds of ABS/Brake Fluid lights upon starting the car, but that's not new. Appreciate any definite opinions. Thanks.
