I was going to suggest a pencil eraser, but if emery cloth didn't work, I don't think the eraser will be much better.
I would try some soldering paste. See if you can work it in with a brush or toothpick and let it sizzle. Then clean the paste off with the contact cleaner. Naval Jelly might work. Just some guesses. Also make wure that a lead to the circuit board has not cracked from vibration. If so you can solder in a jumper to bypass the break.
These are long shots and if the controller still doesn't work, I would probably replace the controller.
