1979-1993 & 94 Conv [Subscribe to Daily Digest] |
I bought my '94CE a year ago with 40k miles for $8k. Seller didn't know what they had. I agree that the paint always looks dusty. This car has some Swedish Dynamic parts in it which boost the HP from stock 185 up to around 230. Now it's not bone stock though. As far as the future holds for the colectabilty of these cars, you never know. But as in all collectable autos, numbers matching is important. If you're buying it for it's potential collectabilty you better love it stock. If you want a car that's fun to drive and you can modify, any 5-speed CV will do. I just happen to like the look of the '94 CE. I've modified it because I have no intention of ever selling it.
Cars don't have to be Ferraris to be collectable. 1982 Chrysler LeBaron Mark Cross convertibles are considered collectable now. Low-milage, good condition examples are almost worth their original sticker price. My father once owned a 1958 Impala convertible. We started looking for one to restore around 1980. Prices ranged from around $6K-$10K. As soon as the Impala reached 25years (just three years later) the prices went through the roof. Today you are looking at $40-$65K for nicer examples. Nedless to say we never got one.
I bought this car to replace my '93T CV which became too expensive to repair all that had gone wrong. It was black with taupe interior and a black top. A real looker!
Even with it's unique features, I agree that most people will have no idea that it is a special car. It helps that my licence plate reads "CMEMRTIV". Expect to pay handsomly if you have to have the seats or the wheels repaired since they are so uncommon.
My friend and fellow Saab enthusiast just bought a '94 CE with 125k miles for around 10k. Now there are 2 '94 CEs in our neighborhood :-).
Keep your eyes peeled. Recently I have seen lots of them in the Saabnet classified and on ebay. Occasionally, even on AutoTrader.
