Oil pan, cracked. Process and options. Please help!

For the past six months, my car has been leaking oil as a result of stripped oil pan threads. A few months ago, I decided to try and fix it once and for all. Sure enough, in my frustration and too large a socket wrench: my oil pan was cracked.
I spoke to several individuals. Called places. I tried to buy a new pan, was told I needed a stem. Tried to find a stem, was told that I needed a new transmission case. In the end, I decided to pursue the JB Weld solution.
It worked to a degree. The car drives, but it leaks. After patch upon patch and a mound of JB Weld decorating the bottom of my car, the drip is slower but still there. If I ignore it for a week, I lose about a quart.
It's unrealistic to spend $1,000 on a new transmission. I called machinists and they refused to work on the car with the transmission still in the car. This is my only car, the car I use to commute to work. Unfortunately, I find it difficult to justify dropping thousands into my SAAB at this point. It's old and it has not been reliable enough to make me comfortable. Short of that, it's a great car and I'm scared of it one day running dry. The spots of oil are frustrating.
I would highly appreciate *any* suggestions! Complete solutions are ideal. This is my last call for help, with some degree of desperation. I hope that it will be answered!
Thank you!
