I have an 87 900t and just tightened the mirror on the passenger side last weekend. It is pretty easy but hard to describe. You will need four screws exactly the right size (which I don't know but you can figure out once the mirror is apart) and a new plastic hole cover for auto trim the same size as the one on the mirror mount inside cover. It is easier to work on if you remove the housing from the car and take it to the kitchen table. To do that remove the plastic cap on the inside plastic cover by the car window, exposing two torx screws. When these are off you need to also disconnect the electrical plug for the mirror motor. You can remove the mirror from the housing through a small access hole in the bottom - use a small flat blade screwdriver to push the "gear" to remove the mirror. Inside is a sheetmetal cover with tabs for the springs that pull taught to keep the mirror tight but allow it to bend back if you hit something while the car is moving. Mine was held on by four melted plastic nubs and can be removed using a drill and oversized bit. Under the sheetmetal is a T-shaped bar which is usually bent to the point where the springs no longer function. Take the tee off by pressing out the pin that holds it in place nearest the car. Straighten out the upper "cross" of the tee and you will solve the problem. You can use a vise or just a big waterpump wrench. Reinstall using screws instead of the melted plastic nubs. Whole job took me about 1.5 patient hours.
