What's a good 900 for a student, and what to look for?

I'm looking to get an older non-turbo 900 for my son to take off to college. I know maintenance can get costly on Saabs. Any years/models that are more reliable, and with fewer likely costly maintenance issues? Any years/models to avoid? What are the weak/trouble/costly areas on these cars? What are the important things to check? What do I want to make sure it's already had done? What are some of the more major/costly things that fail, and at what interval? And what might a typical price range be for a sold one (I'm in New England). Thanks. John D.
