In the past 18 months I've bought a '94 900 Convertible (C900) and last month I bought a '96 900 Turbo Convertible (NG900). Both cars are definetely Saabs - Crap fuel pumps, electrical gremlins, and plastic parts that disintigrate with time. However, just when I swear off of Saabs, I sit in the leather seats, turn over the motor, take the cars for a spin, and am totally in love with them. I'm addicted.
I don't necessarily agree that the NG900 is harder to work on - as long as you have the right tools and equipment, etc. A higher quality OBD II diagonstic computer is a must (or know someone who will let you borrow theirs ;-)). Both cars have their pros and cons. My advice would come down to your wallet. The older cars need more TLC as more things (nagging problems i'll call them) need to be replaced as they are simply older cars. However, the newer cars might not require as much TLC, BUT when something bad goes, look out - $$. Either way, they are both Saabs, and they will bring you - if taken care of - many years of a love hate relationship. Much more love than hate imho.
