(Original post on General Board - When is it time to throw in the towel?)

I asked them to look at my short list:
- drivers side windshield wiper (this great tech in Vero, who works on it when I’m home & thinks my car is great, knows how to sauter it w/o having to replace it AAAGGGH. I called him when I pulled off the road 5 hrs into my trip…and yes RAINX works amazingly well…scary at first …but it does work!!)
- smell of gasoline in trunk
- brake fluid light just started coming on intermittently (the local dealership “did the brakes” last year when I was up here – have to check on what they did)
- is there a problem with the passenger side cooling fan? (my guy in Vero thought he had seen it being slow the day I left Vero when I stopped in at the dealership to quickly to say bye - I’m off to the great white N)
- oh, you do detailing what is the charge? yes, I know the drivers side trim peeled off on I-95 too earlier - I just have to order it – they said they’d be happy to get a price for me.
- oops...need a new r rear turn signal bulb - (it’s has been freezing here to do it myself)

THEIR list from scribbling it quickly as we spoke on the phone. Ready??
- Wiper Assembly $494- (just a tad higher than what I thought)
- Fuel Cap $14- (whew, easy one there)
- Blinker Bulb $34- (ouch, I do know how to do that one)
- Brake Master Cylinder leaking $404-
(the dealership here just did the brakes last year...??)
- Cooling Fan has an electrical issue, don’t know what it is yet –
(estimate of a minimum. of $120)
- Power Steering Rack - rebuilt - $575 (wow - didn't know it was a problem!)
- Front Crank Pulley separating $600- (ditto)
- Trans Service – the pan is pushed in, pull down & flush out $267.24 (ditto)
- Heat Shield corroding $300- (hmm, sounds familiar, heard of that before, wasn't that one done when the converter was replaced?? have to get those records - maybe on my first 900..??)
- Set up engine, adjust throttle plate & timing, clean housing $250- (purr factor??)
- Front Alignment $75 (a ditto again)
- Replace the O ring, change oil,lube $32.82
- Antennae mast $70 (came out in a quickie car wash last year - if they can repair it vs. replacing it)
- Detail, rub - $219
- oh, your AC is completely empty...we didn’t price it since it’s Winter here.

Add on they forgot to get the trim price, & I want to replace 2 additional things that are bothering me: foggy headlights (I tried to wipe them through the hole where the bulb is, but kept losing the paper.), and the header which a Vero place did 5 yrs ago is not falling down, just looks like a squirrel scratched it all over...not attractive!! So none of that is even part of their picture. I had planned to get the former 2 on-line....

it's ironic that I bought the car now 7 yrs ago with 39K on it, has no rust, a body in great shape, new windshield & I thought it would go to 200. The majority of people have to let them go because of rust & I have none to speak of.

I woke up with this question, are there particular points in time and milage, where you know to expect replacing certain things? Perhaps age factors in irregardless of the milage?

I'm overwhelmed again....
thanks everyone!
