Only use saab bougicord or magnacore 8.5KV wires.
I've used magnacore and even they won't last forever...five years is maybe tops on my 87 900T.
I once had the wires replaced on the road (my wife was in annapolis, MD) and they lasted a year. Sheesh. Even the bougicords are good for 3-4 years.
It gets hot under there by the turbo and the wires just bake.
But before I would go to plug wires, check for a spark....easy enought to do with a spare spark plug. If you have spark...it's something else, like a fuel pump not being turned on, maybe bad ground at the ecu. There are several ground points on the classic 900, one on the engine and several on the body. You might check the one on the engine for deteriorating wires....I went through an intermittent no start on my 87900T for a couple years, replaced the ecu and it went away for six mos only to come back as a bad ground/deteriorated terminal ends at the engine grounding point. Had to cut an inch or so off the wires and reterminate/solder the ends...no trouble for about five years....
