Here’s a link to my response to your earlier post, I did it the other day so I'm not sure if you saw it.
I didn't have problems with my drive cup's (see previous post) when I swapped the suspension on my 86 SPG to the later bolt pattern. The donor car for the suspension was a 91 and at the time the 86 had an 85t gearbox in it. But it's a crazy world and who's to say otherwise.
One option to swapping cup's is swapping tri-pod cluster's on the axle's so that you don’t need to worry about the spacers, when swapping the tri-pod cluster’s you need to make sure you don’t disturb all the needles that make up the cluster. If you bang it the wrong way it’s a mess and the cluster is shot. Either way works just a matter of choice but it’s a double edge sword. If you swap inner driver’s check for any scoring on the inside of the driver. If there is scoring, caused by the grease leaking out, then you have a vibration at speed. If you run into scoring you can swap the inner driver’s from side to side
For what I remember with swapping inner cup’s is the spacer’s stay with the gearbox, so the 89 cup’s go on the 85 gearbox and spacers.
Like James said, you will need to swap the front cover as the 85 had a solid front mount and the 89 had hydraulic.
