Derek,
Don't even worry about replacing the transmission, especially if the car has been meticulously maintained. I have a 1990 900S hatchback, with 197,800 miles on it. I bought it with 185K and the transmission had just been rebuilt! So put it this way, if the car you're looking at has 91K on it, that transmission hasn't even lived half its life. One thing to be careful of with the '90 transmissions---when cold, they can be fussy going from 1st to 2nd gear, so put it in second very slowly. I also know someone with an '89 900 who has about 200K on it--transmission hasn't been rebuilt yet. Bottom line--I don't think you'll need to replace the transmission soon. You should be fine.
