RS, yes this past fall when I was getting the '86 back on the road or so I thought, I totally fixed the idle problem and more.
In a nutshell, it turned out that the brake booster had a vacuum leak in it. So the PO had just cranked up the AMM so that it was always running rich. Easy in retrospect to see, but it took me quite a while to figure out. So, I put in the brake booster from my '87 (after swapping master cylinder and lines, 'cause different), put in new O2, and adjusted the AMM (since LH 2.2) to compensate for my 24# injectors and 3.0 bar fpr so that the testing plug for the AMM swung back and forth between 0-12V like its suppose to do (as per Anders recommendations).
So I was quite thrilled to have everything working great after so long, basically since I bought it 3-4 years ago. This feeling lasted for about two days as I got it on the road and quickly noticed the loud pinion bearing howl.
Take care,
Wes L.
