Wiper Woes Gone, thanks for input y'all Posted by EverettDave [Email] (#1894) [Profile/Gallery] (more from EverettDave) on Wed, 4 May 2005 23:25:34 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
I finally took a serious look at the wiper motor -to -linkage arrangement yesterday.....and I solved the problem quickly. It seems that the bolt and washer that secure the linkage to the motor shaft had loosened and backed out, allowing the short flat link just enuf room to raise up off those flats. This permitted the motor to keep running, without driving the linkage. Thank Dog that I found this quick enough - much more time on the wipers would prob have worn down those flats, forcing me to a new motor for sure.
Thing is, when your wipers are parked, the 10mm bolt is concealed under the longer pass side drive arm, so you cannot check it visually. One has to run the wipers then cut the ignition off to leave them mid-windshield, so that the 10mm bolt is in the open and one can tighten it down.
I was concerned that I had burned up the motor, since the fuse was fine, but now I've got full wiper use back and can deal with our daily Seattle rain just fine. ( Yup, dat's right! Those of you considering a move to Seattle better be aware of our nasty daily rain and black clouds!)
