exhaust pipes

The exhaust system on my 93 900 (the trunk lid says S900 but the S-package options are not on the car) is pretty sad and rusty (rusty is a little unusual in inland N. California) with the front muffler (the large one) having holes developing in the can. I've bound the thin with muffler "bandage" as a temp fix; and the sound is much better.
I need to replace the system. I think the bits are clamped together (not a welded muffler shop job).
I reckon the pipes and mufflers would cost about $200 cat-back. I guess a muffler shop job would run $350-400 (maybe I ought to get a quote, eh?<G>).
what downside is there to using stock-replacement pipe items (I'd likely get them from autohaus-arizona) vs a muffker shop job. Apart from the absolute ecstasy of crawling around underneath the car at age 60+ trying to get the *(^%&% pieces to fit together and all that).
this is not an area where there's normally snow/salt/rust problems (even my 73 MGB is still using the OEM exhaust pipes!)
