Your on the right, do what you can afford and enjoy the car for what it is.
Bolt on mods are limited.
A 76 99 fuel distributor, free flow air filter,
mss or saab 2 piece ehauste, no cat 2 muffler exhaust
will make the car faster.
I say stick with stock water pump if you need to replace it.
The complete rebuilt kit is still available new.
Few people are importing them, but they are available,
albeit not branded as a saab part.
The seal only kit does seam prone to failure.
This a job many people tackle themselves and it leaks.
My mechanic used the full rebuild and it hasn't leaked in like 20k miles.
(knock on wood).
To do the turbo conversion right you need a different engine to swap.
5 sp tranny swap requires pulling the engine.
I don't know that anyone has done a light pressure turbo (LPT)
on a B engine.
This would concievably work with your existing engine,
without pulling the engine.
I think you could get a exhauste manifold, turbo and header pipe
from a B turbo.
Good parts would take some research to locate.
A Saabite might send to you parts for a little more than shipping.
You'd need to move the battery to the trunk and run 0 gauge welding cable.
You'd need to way turn the boost down to like 1/3.
You'd also need a turbo exhauste, I'd do an oem turbo muffler and no cat.
The same caveates would apply to a converting a 81-94 900 to LPT.
This is well documented and was a european option in like 89-93.
It could also kill your engine quickly if you ignored knocking.
It would be a pioneering experiment.
