whether the springs are intact. Think of Schroedinger's cat (poor thing). Until you open it up, you don't know whether a rebuild will be viable or not.
In a nutshell, it's a gamble as to whether they're rebuildable.
I've had good luck rebuilding my clutch master, but only because I had a spring handy to replace the broken one.
Be prepared to replace or rebuild the clutch slave because the fresh fluid washes away the crud that fills in wear in the old O-rings.
