My 85 had the same issue...seems to me to be mostly heat related...so the wires that break up are often the ones getting the most heat...top of radiator/engine loom to injectors/AIC/around alternator. I cut my loom open VERY CAREFULLY and found only a couple of wires needed replacing...still took me hours to do, but I've not had a short or a problem since...that was 5 years ago. Depending on your issues, I'd look to go wire by wire. What you don't want is to leave it...then find multiple shorts which will be very difficult to sort out!
