I removed the entire engine harness from a '85 900T years ago and found approx six wires that the insulation was easy to break apart. The same six wires had soft insulation, all the way to the ecu connector. The only thing I could figure was some colors of insulation were prone to disintegrate from the factory. It really was strange. You guys are right though, the exposed wires are worse than anything else.
