Jeff,
The fix I did on my clutch pedal is one that Tom Townsend, of Townsend Imports, recommends on his website: http://www.townsendimports.com
I took the left most screw from the heater duct (T20 Torx screw on my '87 SPG) and bent the duct down, as it's very flexible, to get at the pedals better. I removed the clutch pedal (to take pedal off, unhook return spring, removed end clip and pin at clutch master cyl. fork, remove 17mm bolt and 17mm nut), drilled out the clutch pedal hole to 3/8". Then, I simply swiveled the clutch master cylinder "fork" 90 degrees--this allowed me drill out its hole also to 3/8" using a handheld drill working from the driver's floor area (I didn't want to remove the clutch master cyl. from the car). I had purchased a 3/8" steel pin and "cotter key or carter pin" at a local hardware store for about $1.50.
While I had the pedal out, I daubed a little grease on the big pivot tube (which the pedal bolt goes through). I re-installed pedal, connected it to the clutch master fork with the 3/8" pin and cotter key, and voila! No more pedal slop!
Actually, this pedal hole was so elongated that a 3/8" pin was slightly small. It works better than before, but I'd rather have had a 7/16" or even 1/2" pin if I do it over. Yours may not be that worn, though.
