When I bought my 900T-convertibles, I drove the auto and the stick. While I liked the much longer "legs" of the stick, for my style of driving the auto was the only way to go. I don't like to high-rev an engine and both of the stick-versions I drove fell-off turbo between gears and lugged before re-boosting. The auto gives continuous boost, though it took a while to get used-to the enormous amount of torque-converter stall.
In normal driving I rarely go over 3200rpm, though my '91 would be so much better with the later overdrive. I don't think I've EVER rev'ed mine more than three or four times in 250k+ miles over 4000rpm, and only once went to 4300rpm to avoid a truck in the NJ Trunpike....4000rpm in second gear....the only time I've ever put the peddle to the floor and actually used the pedal's 2nd gear kick-down.
The newer tubos from Saab and VW use fly-by-wire to get (and keep) the turbo spooling between gears, but I never got used to the turbvo-stall on the 900t's like mine.
