The time delay relay was in all the cars.

The relay works off the door switches and not of the other switch. For the 1985 and 1986 non convertible I remember my 85 turbo having a switch on the console the turned the does on and off. The 3 position switch was in the 1987 and later cars have the 3 position switch (1, off, 2). For the 1985 and 86 if the switch is giving a problem you can unplug it and the lights will still work with the time delay when the doors open.
