Here's some background - The fuel injection computer (ECU) relies on the AMM for input on what the engine is doing for the first few minutes because it ignores the O2 sensor until it knows that the sensor is putting out a reliable signal. That's why it smooths out after you drive it for a bit. A typical reason for this behaviour is a margial AMM, like everybody has been saying. FWIW, SWEDECAR says that the AMMs on LH 2.2 cars tend to fail in a way that makes the engine run leaner.

If this came on suddenly, suspect a vacuum leak before the AMM.

Vacuum leaks are insidious (and some are in the country), and they are the bane of the Turbo driver. After a decade or so, the rubber vacuum hoses develop cracks, splits, and checks that are difficult to track down. And your car is 20 years old.

So, instead of driving yourself crazy hunting down the bad vacuum lines, change them all (one at a time) and change the rubber bushings that hold the vacuum nipples to the intake mainifold and the valve cover. Get 20 or so feet of 3.5-mm silicone hose from a speed shop for about $1 a foot and change out all of the underhood hoses. You'll also want to change the rubber bushing that holds the PCF line in the plastic turbo duct.

The bushings are around $4 each from sponsors like sobstory.com and eEuroparts.com. They're about twice that from the dealer.

Here's another thing to consider - there has been a technical bulliten from SAAB on idle fluctuations on LH 2.2 cars - yours is the first production year of 900s with the LH 2.2 ECU. Follow the link below to go to that page. Take it with a grain of salt because it sounds like this started recently on your car. Replace the vacuum hoses first. Let us know what happens.
