... So it can tell quite a lot, assuming the gauge functions properly.
What does the gauge read when the car is off? what does it read at idle?
I will be surprised if swapping the turbo works - but i've been surprised before!
As for driving it as an "S" - with your turbo engine's low compression ratio, it will be quite a bit worse than a non-turbo car, acceleration-wise!
Cruise control can affect APC-turbo control.
A stock APC box should boost to the end of yellow/edge of red, assuming good gas, plugs, wires, etc...
