I have an older car I drive daily to Boston, a POS (piece of xxxx). Hey, it gets me there and I'm sure not driving the SAAB vert everyday. But anyway, that cars been hit several times by errant drivers (imagine that in Mass). Each time, the other drivers insurance company has declared the car a total loss, wanted to give me $500 for my troubles. Each time, I calmly explained that while yes old, it's not totaled and that your client is at fault. Each time, I've ended up walking away (the important part as opposed to being carried or wheeled away) with $1000-2000.

Probably, their $750 is the first offer. If you have only liability coverage (as I do on my POS), your insurance company is not much help.

One other SAAB that I've owned that was declared totaled by my insurance company (colllision with a tree) resulted from a hurried appraisal and the fear that SAAB repairs are exorbitant.
