Glad someone else found the info useful!
Interesting that the end of the stalk just comes off that way, I didn't think to try anything like that! Though I'm pretty satisfied with the way the switch is currently mounted.
On the wiring, what I was looking for was to simulate the stalk being placed momentarily in the "low speed" position and released, so the wiper parking mechanism takes over and completes the stroke. I remember initially coming up with a different set of connections that looked "obvious," but kept blowing fuses. I took another look at the schematic and came up with bridging terminals 53a and 31b. It's been working fine that way. (I do have the original Saab delay relay.) Connecting to the intermittent terminal is an interesting idea, though I wonder if you would have to wait for the delay period before being able to hit the wipers again.
You are correct that there is a fair amount of current involved. I hold the switch down for only a second or two so the wipers get moving, then release. I suppose you could install a relay to take most of the load, using the added stalk wiring and switch as a trigger, but I have not seen any problems thus far.
I just checked and the original instructions I posted are still available at http://3626288982/c900/wipers.html. I think I'll add some of the notes posted here in case anyone finds the instructions via a web search.
As stated, all caveats apply, check this modification out thoroughly and look over the wiring before attempting! (And have those spare fuses handy!)
