This car, '86 900T, I've had for 5 years. It's very quick, much more powerful than my other identical car. Feels better, handles better, etc. Strange how a matched set of cars can be so different, ... but I digress.
It suffered a massive head gasket blowout a while back, and while the car probably has no real value, since I had recently replaced radiator, steering rack, starter, shocks & brakes, I figured it owed me a few more years of service. I was inclined to not do the usual head gasket job, because in my view the engine may have other problems (various clatters on startup and even while idling, ( chain noise, or rods or lifters? ). Anyway, a solid used engine from an '88 9000 Turbo became available for a song ($300) so I decided to just swap motors.
Of course, since it's a 9k motor into a 900, the timing cover needs to be swapped because they're different, but otherwise it looks like everything should fit.
Regarding the evidence of a catastrophic engine failure years ago, the guy I bought this car from told me he had replaced engines due to "overheating". Well, I guess it overheated pretty spectacularly!
