Rusted, stuck caliper, then worn down to metal-to-metal pad on rotor contact? A worn-out pad makes a horrible rushing grinding noise, can continue even when you're not stepping on the pedal but get worse when you brake.
A poor man's fix, if it's just pads worn down to nothing, is, if you jump on it quickly, just put in new pads. Surprising how quickly the rotor smooths out and how smooth it comes out, and it often is a good braking surface with no noticeable warping (pulsing pedal). A lot of noise can be made by steel-on-iron from just a corner of the pad touching a small part of the rotor surface, on one side. But even if it's a wide area you might keep it serviceable on the cheap. NO shop would do this, for lots of good reasons, but if you're handy you could try it.
If the rotor is rusty, however, or worn or turned down thin, or if you're feeling flush and want to do it right, just buy new Saab rotors and new pads.
If it's a stuck caliper, you could free the piston back up if you push it back in its bore with the tip of an air chisel tool, with a blunt tip blank tool inserted. Saab's rears are complicated by the e-brake mechanism though.
Often a too-thin turned-down rotor is the reason for a stuck caliper. As pads wear down the piston over-extends in the bore and gets so far out it cocks crooked and stops returning after it's applied. Then in the salt belt in winter, rust takes over and locks it into place.
