I have an '86 so of this may apply or may not.... maybe the warning chime relay is faulty or loose. I recently upgraded my '86 buzzer relay to a chime relay and with the relay removed, the cabin lights stopped working - I was curious about the lights, cause my alarm system is related to this circuitry. The chime relay is under the rear seat in my car and has slots in the top of it with a small speaker visible through the slots. The part # on mine is 9563313.

I think the switch you're refering to is the cabin light switch.
