left rear brake sticky Posted by Saana88 [Email] ![]() ![]() ![]() |
Okay, I got the '88 out of storage, the left rear caliper was sticky, so I disassembled everything, gave all the sliding surfaces a good hit with the wire brush, put some brake lube as best as I could on the sliding pins, put it back together, and readjusted, and the problem was fixed. Now, a month later (and conveniently just as the temperature hasn't gotten out of the single digits this week) the caliper will stick on after a few miles. Is this a sliding issue or is the (poorly-rebuilt Centric) caliper (almost 3 years old) toast already? I really don't want to burn up my brand new rear pads, so tonight I crawled under and loosened the piston travel screw a half a turn and test drove and it still sticks.
Caliper?
My complaint against the rebuild is that somebody decided to use somewhere around five and a half millimeter allen key bolts for the slide pins. That makes changing the pads a lot more difficult. All the while I'm grumbling, "why can't you ididots conform already" since the pins are supposed to be 6 mm hex and instead they're not removable, even with inch-size allen keys. Not too thrilled about having to change a caliper when it's two degrees out. Am I overlooking something?
