Lets see if I can help some
My 85 SPG taps a bit from the lifters if it isn't driven every day. A good oil change and the new Fram "Tough Guard" filters (they have an anti drain back valve) will help.
I don't believe 86s had a crank sensor yet, could be wrong but I don't think so. My guess is either Hall sensor or the Ignition Amplifer (drivers front fender), esp since you say the tech jumps before stalling. Don't worry about the zip tie.... those connectors all break and I've has a zip on mine for a while now. Just make sure the connector is tight.
