Spring compression? Help me Save My SPG!

Front end went bust on my SPG, previously away at school, no time to investigate the problem. back home now to figure it out. It would seem that the bolts holding the lower control arm to the lower ball joint came off. the tierod end still looks and feels good and firm and the drive axle and cv joint is a little tweaked, but still alright.
The problem is that when the bolt jostled out (i think that my leaky oil cooler let enoughoil blow back at this joint that the bolts loosend up causing the faliure) The frontleft coil spring fully uncompressed and with the upper controlarm still attached to the upper ball joint I cannot realign the lower arm parts to get a few bolts in there.
The Question:
How can I compress the Spring without the saab tool? I have tried using a hydrolic jack and a short steel pipe underneath the upper arm but this arrangement is very precarious almost no matter where the jackpoint is. a ratchet strap around the spring was my first idea, but my smallest ratchet is too small. Ideas!!
I suppose the tool would be acceptable as a last resort... price? where can i find one?
If I can only get this spring compressed i can put the front of my SPG back together! I would really hate too see her go to the yard. but thats the alternative unfortunatly.
Thanks!
