Chaz, thanks for the ideas and the quick response.

I should've mentioned mine is a 900S (non-Turbo).

Your first idea makes sense to me given an earlier experience. About three years ago I had a similar problem but it was during a heat wave. I was running at highway speed with the top up and the air conditioner cranking. The engine just quit suddenly and wouldn't start again. I called AAA (honeslty, they must hate me) then sat and waited. I got bored and turned the key about 15 minutes later and it started right up. No problems since till now.

Sounds like the block temp sensor did it's job back then, and may be dying now. Do you think there's anything to my observation about the ambient temperature or am I just grasping there?

Regarding this "BLUE unit" with the "bosch style plug" (forgive me, I'm a newbie to trying to fix this car myself)...

- which side are the fuel injectors on? Driver or Passenger?
- what exactly IS this unit? What do I ask for to replace it? And where?
- what makes something "bosch style"?
