The bracket is different, the lower bolt and alternator bushings are different, (later is larger). SAAB had a major issue with batteries going dead on 81-83 cars as the alternator was not large enough. The single belt was barely good enough to pull the alternator. Some of the cars with automatic transmissions were upgraded to 80 amp alternators and a funky double belt system that used a short belt from the alternator to the water pump, in addition to the original belt.
