If you want satellite radio, it's a lot easier to get a head unit that is ready for it. The head unit was $165 (Alpine 9847 I think?), nothing exciting, but the XM module simply plugged right into it, the antenna was mounted on the right side of the dash, just in front of the speaker, and you get a fully integrated usage experiences. The head unit shows the channel and/or song playing. The sound quality is great (I also have an Alpine amp and MB Quart speakers, which helps a lot too!), with no static, distortion, etc. It's almost CD quality sound, but after listening to it for a minute or so, you don't notice the difference. It also makes the CD player somewhat pointless too!
XM has great traffic coverage (I live in LA....very useful!), a great mix of programs and i'm not a huge Howard Stern fan.
There's no real need to get a portable unit anymore, since you can get XM for free so many other ways (using AOL's new instant messenger, DirecTV, or even at xmradio.com).
I just hope they can turn a profit soon, otherwise a lot of users are gonna be pissed off when they go off the air due to their constant revenue losses!
Cheers,
