I recently replaced the original clutch + slave, 178K ('87 900T). I had bled the slave before that, and the fluid that came out was pretty dark and thick. So, I put in a new slave since everything was apart anyway. Out of curiosity, I completely disassembled the old slave to take a look--- no pitting, no scoring, just some deposits from decomposed brake fluid/water that cleaned up easily once everything was apart. I re-assembled it with new o-rings, and stuck it on the shelf as an emergency spare for future use.
